In the fall of 2024, local voters supported “Yes for Parks” to establish the Park Fund. A master plan guides how the Park Fund is allocated.

A master plan ensures parks and programs respond to community needs and interests and identifies opportunities for new parks, facilities and programs.

To align with other city-wide goals and initiatives such as Imagine Lexington 45 , the Urban Growth Master Plan, and comply with national park accreditation standards.

The Master Plan sets a community-driven, long-term vision for Lexington’s parks and recreation system. It prioritizes investments over a 10+ year timeline, aligns with citywide plans and national standards, and guides use of the voter-approved Park Fund to ensure parks, programs, and facilities are equitable, sustainable, resilient, and responsive to community needs.

Project Goals:

Through inclusive and accessible public engagement, the Plan will:

• Engage diverse community members and stakeholders to guide the future of parks, facilities, and programs.
• Establish a fair and equitable strategy that benefits all residents regardless of socioeconomic, cultural, racial, or geographic differences.
• Use data-driven analysis to anticipate trends, assess impacts, and address unmet needs.
• Strengthen environmental resilience by leveraging parks and greenspaces as community-wide green infrastructure.
• Support financial sustainability and organizational excellence through strategic partnerships, revenue opportunities, and long-term operational planning.
• Deliver a clear, actionable roadmap that promotes health, safety, active lifestyles, community connectivity, and long-term success.
